Collaborates with the Senior Infection Control Coordinator and the Environmental Health Officer in the planning, organization, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of the hosptial infection control program.
Duties:
- Responsible for surveillance of infections based on the Infection Control Surveillance Plan for assigned inpatient and ambulatory care units.
- Identifies problems and issues related to infection control and consults with the Infection Control Coordinator for solutions.
- Documents diseases required to be reported formally to the Ministry of Health and submit reports.
- Initiates transmission-based isolation precautions and discontinues precautions as indicated.
- Makes recommendations on appropriate isolation precautions to be used for known or suspected infectious processes.
- Participates in the General Orientation program for all new employees by providing an overview of the Infection Control Program.
- Develops and participates in educational programs for evidence-based infection control practices.
- Performs approprate follow-up of employee and patient exposure to diseases for which specific protocols exist.
- Integrates clinical findings, direct patient observations, laboratory results, and other diagnostic tests to determine the presence of infections accordint to the criteria established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Maintains computer-based infection control reports.
- Serves as a member of the Infection Control Committee, as assigned.
- Participates in the development and revision of infection control policies and procedures.
- Participates in hospital-wide Performance Improvement activities.
- Collaborates with the Infection Control Coordinator on activities, decisions, and actions related to the environment of care and risk management.
- Follows all hospital-related policies and procedures.
- Participates in self and others' education, training, and development, as applicable.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or other health-related field required
- Current RN license from the USA or Canada required
- Minimum five years recent clinical nursing (RN) experience in a tertiary-care or teaching hospital, with one year of current experience in infection control in a tertiary-care facility required
- Certification in infection control (CIC) preferred
