The Hematology Section, which has a staff of seven Consultant physicians, is part of the Cancer Center at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre’s in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The section is responsible for the investigation and management of adult patients with a variety of hematological malignancies (mostly acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, multiple myeloma), as well as several non-malignant hematological disorders. Its facilities include a 15-bed acute leukemia unit, a five-bed intermediate level ICU, a 15-bed bone marrow transplant unit (the service performs about 120 BMTs annually), and outpatient clinics.
The hematology section also has an extensive hematopoietic stem cell transplantation program, with a focus on allogeneic stem cell transplantation. It performs 60 to 65 stem cell transplantations annually, and follows stem cell transplantation patients at a specialized bone marrow transplant clinic within the hospital.
Prior to offering a permanent one- or two-year contract, the hospital invites doctors for a one-month locum. This provides an opportunity to see the hospital, the department, Riyadh, and Saudi Arabia before making a long-term commitment.
Requirements:
- American Boards or Canadian FRCPC in Hematology, and
- A minimum of three years post-specialty certification experience as a Hematologist in North America.
